Salon Art Prize 2012

The work selected for the 2012 Salon Art Prize is Praxis, a repetitive line drawing. Part of a series of systematic works produced within a defined area, it displays successively drawn straight lines, which suggest movement and depth on the paper surface through the process of drawing.

New drawings exploring repetitive graphite lines on black paper. On the dark surface the graphite drawings appears nearly invisible when viewing them directly from the front, but when seen from other viewing positions the lines catch the light with a metallic shimmer.

Drawing with Light

The above image documents one of a series of studio explorations using light and cut paper to generate drawings onto a wall. Repetitive straight parallel lines were cut into black card, which was then manipulated into different forms and lit from behind. The shape of the card (in this case bent into a cylinder), the width and depth of the cut lines, and the proximity of the light to the cuts generated different intensities and trajectories of light drawings onto a wall, something that will continue to be developed in the studio.
