Work in Progress: Psychoparadoxa

Charley Peters, Psychoparadoxa (2012), Card & Graphite Powder

This is an early studio development of the Psychoparadoxa series of drawings, which explore spatiality and perspective through limited, instinctively drawn lines. The geometric 3-Dimensional construction - a drawing in space - is a physical interpretation of the linear movements suggested in the earlier ink drawings (examples below). The work depicted above is a maquette that will be developed in different materials over the coming weeks, focusing on creating fluid and dynamic single forms which move away from floor-based compositions and explore the physical space inhabited in the studio.

Sketches

Charley Peters, Sketches (2012), Ink on Paper
These small sketchbook drawings continue the development of the Psychoparadoxa series started in late 2011. In these drawings the black lines move dynamically across the paper plane, creating relationships between constituent elements which are both interconnected and independent.

Studio Views: Psychoparadoxa, Developments in Studio Drawing

Charley Peters, Studio Drawings for Psychoparadoxa Series (2012), Yarn

My first studio day of 2012 led to developments of the Psychoparadoxa series of line drawings. The drawings were taken from the flat surface of the paper and constructed in yarn, suspended in a 3-dimensional space in the studio. The original works in ink suggested 'opened-out' perspective drawings and by executing them in the physical space of a room the relationship between background and foreground lines could be explored further. The yarn does not make contact with the studio wall at any point, but forms a geometric construction in space that marks out drawn lines in 3-dimensions.

Studio Views: Work in Progress, Psychoparadoxa

Psychoparadoxa are new works on the wall (above) and paper (below) that use the notion of perspective drawing as the starting point for geometric explorations of space. In these examples limited colour is used to both explain and confuse the separate planes of foreground and background.

Project News: Pinpoint Introspective on TBC Online Project Space

Charley Peters Psychoparadoxa I-IV (2011)

My new works, Psychoparadoxa I-IV, are available to see online from today at 12-pages.com. The latest edition of TBC's publication 12-Pages is entitled Pinpoint Introspective. The works selected by this month's editor, Liz Oniri, represent a search amongst the building blocks of humankind for a means of expression. In a world in which we are forced to process volumes of information far beyond the scope of any computer, by placing the minutiae of our being under a microscope, we are forced to constantly recontextualise anew, always creating new lines of creative investigation.
