Sketches: Lines and Forms in Space

Charley Peters, Untitled Sketches (2012), Graphite on Paper

A new series of drawings exploring the spatial relationships of directional lines within the paper plane. Using a variety of media including graphite, tape, acrylic and graphite powder, depth and perspective is suggested through deliberately restrained drawing methods in these small works on paper.

Using powdered graphite on a variety of treated grounds (including glue, tape and spray fixative) irregular and unpredictable textures are created to introduce an extra level of experience to the drawings, encouraging a contrasting relationship between precise, controlled marks and randomly created areas of varying tonality.
