New Work: In Progress

Charley Peters, Untitled Collages (2012), Cut Paper, Photocopies & Inkjet Prints

Cut and collaged photocopies and inkjet prints used in the studio to explore composition and texture. The material was generated from photographs taken of graphite drawings, the metallic surface being represented photographically as a shiny, uneven surface, distressed and manipulated by the intense application of graphite onto the surface of newsprint, a fragile and easily disrupted drawing support.

Exhibition Review: Autography

In The stage of drawing: gesture and act (ed. Catherine de Zegher, London, Tate, 2003), Avis Newman writes that she has ‘always understood drawing to be, in essence, the materialisation of a continually mutable process, the movements, rhythms, and partially comprehended ruminations of the mind…when we look, we enter the intimate space of a work that is as close to the action of an artist’s thought as one can get’...

My review of Autography, an exhibition of drawings by Madge Gill and Jack J Hutchinson at The Nunnery Gallery, London, can now be read online here:

Exhibition News: La Petite Muerte

Charley Peters, The faintest echo of the tiniest whisper in the thunder of time (2012),
Graphite Powder on Paper

"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can control the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to - The Outer Limits."

La Petite Muerte, a group show exploring notions of mortality, sex, death and rituals in celebration of Mexican Day of the Dead opens tonight at Drawers Gallery, London E8. I will be showing the above work, a new drawing made for the exhibition. For more information about the exhibition see: http://lapetitemuerte.wordpress.com
