Studio Works 12/07/12

Charley Peters, Untitled Sketches (2012), Graphite on Paper

Preliminary works on paper which explore repetitive lines in space. The lines were then manipulated by creating additional folded lines in the paper, disrupting the drawing surface and the direction of the lines trajectory.

Charley Peters, Untitled Sketches (2012), Graphite on Black Paper

New drawings exploring repetitive graphite lines on black paper. On the dark surface the graphite drawings appears nearly invisible when viewing them directly from the front, but when seen from other viewing positions the lines catch the light with a metallic shimmer.

Project News: ALAS Residency

Today I started a residency at the Matt Roberts Arts Gallery in Vyner Street, East London. ALAS, the Artist-Led Art Society, has been established by Matt Roberts Arts as a means of sharing knowledge about professional contemporary arts practice. Successful applicants will attend lectures and receive one-to-one tuition while creating new work, which will be shown in an exhibition at the new Matt Roberts Arts Gallery (previously Nettie Horn / Vilma Gold) in November 2012.

Matt Roberts Arts is a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2006 to create opportunities for artists in new locations and contexts. I will be pursuing this professional development programme on a part-time basis from June until the scheme ends in November. The exhibition, a group show of all ALAS residents' work, will open on Thursday 8th November 2012.

Sketches: Digital Drawings

Charley Peters, Untitled Digital Drawing (2012)

Charley Peters, Untitled Digital Drawing (2012)

These digital drawings are based on a series of intuitive drawings in sketchbooks that have been developing over the past months. Taking line drawings, such as those shown below, as a starting point, layers of colour and tone are built up digitally to mimic the process of painting over and around masked areas that has been explored in the studio recently.
